    Engagement Summary

    MCM’s Growth & Innovation division engages with client organizations to create environments and components that spark children’s learning through play outside of the walls of the museum.  We are looking for a talented and passionate On-Call Experience Developer to enable us to deliver on these exciting opportunities as they become available.

    The On-Call Experience Developer plays a key role in working with a client to create interactive and immersive experiences that meet budget, timeline and experience goals. The On-Call Experience Developer is responsible for creating fun, compelling and educationally sound exhibit activities and components that are appropriate for young children and their families. The On-Call Experience Developer works on a project team with 2D and 3D designers, project managers, and production staff to develop high-quality experiences across one or more projects. 

    Essential Function

    • Idea Generation: Work collaboratively with experience designer, education specialists, graphic designers, project managers, fabricators and scenic painters to design and develop environments and components. Show strong creative discernment and good discipline around editing of ideas. Interpret and develop concepts, goals and messages into innovative and immersive activities and components that playfully engage visitors and are interactive, interdisciplinary, educationally sound and developmentally appropriate.   
    • Execution:  Research content, alternative activities and components as they relate to individual topics and themes.  Conduct front end, formative, remedial and summative evaluation of exhibits, as directed. Source and oversee selection, use and care of special objects, props, photos and other materials used in experiences. Establish project timelines with Project Manager, Senior Designer and other members of the design team.  Meet all established deadlines and make timely decisions.
    • Documentation: Write, test and edit prompts and text for graphics and collateral materials.  Prepare exhibit documents for review and for communication with client and team. Present review materials and participate in design reviews.  Develop training materials that communicate experience goals, messages and activities. 

    Ideal Candidate

    • Familiarity with child development and learning theories, along with knowledge of diverse educational media including exhibits, programs, kits, film, video and other technologies.
    • Well versed in museum studies and educational and exhibit evaluation principles and methods.
    • A great communicator who listens, observes, finds relevant ideas, explains, writes, and inspires.
    • Demonstrates creativity and skills in translating concepts and ideas into immersive and engaging experiences for young children and families.
    • Provide evidence or work samples of developing successful exhibits or projects for children and families.
    • Able to work on one or more projects with minimum supervision and consistently deliver high-quality exhibit designs.
    • Enjoys collaborative work with experience developers to conceptualize and design complex concepts using a variety of techniques and takes ownership over deliverables.
    • Familiarity with interactive exhibit techniques, fabrication methods, materials and media technologies.
    • Degree in education, museum studies, exhibit/set design and production, a related field or equivalent experience.
