Position: Interpretive Planner / Exhibit Developer

The 106 Group is seeking a full-time Interpretive Planner / Exhibit Developer.

Our interpretation work focuses on revealing the stories of places as a critical aspect of protecting cultural heritage. As a result, we often work closely with indigenous communities and advocate for processes that open doors to voices that have traditionally been left out. We hold IDIQs that form a stable foundation for our work and we are growing our portfolio with additional projects of some renown.
The Interpretive Planner will work with clients and colleagues to support the development of interpretive plans, engage stakeholders, and outline comprehensive visitor experiences that respond to the client’s mission and goals. They will also create compelling visitor experiences through indoor and outdoor exhibits, activities, and interpretive elements that are appropriate for the client’s target audience and authentic to the story. Their work will include developing concepts, goals, and messages into innovative exhibits and programs that engage visitors and are interactive, interdisciplinary, and developmentally appropriate. The Interpretive Planner will work collaboratively in exhibit project teams with exhibit designers, graphic designers, audio and video specialists, researchers, exhibit fabricators, and others to design and develop plans and exhibits. Travel is a requirement of this position.
Responsibilities
l Participate in interpretive planning and design phases from foundations and theme development to concept to final designs
l Work directly with colleagues, clients, and stakeholder groups to develop a team vision and carry it through to implementation
l Participate on multi-disciplinary project teams including in-house staff, partners, clients, and stakeholders
l Contribute to a company culture of teamwork, service, and excellence.
Requirements
l Bachelor’s degree minimum
l Excellent research and writing skills
l Ability to work individually and as a team
l Ability to adapt quickly and work well under pressure
l Exceptional communication skills, both verbally and in writing
l Comfortable with PCs and Microsoft Office applications
l Valid driver’s license and ability to reliably commute to the 106 Group offices in Saint Paul, MN and to project locations
l Ability and willingness to participate in and support other company projects as appropriate according to skill level, experience, and ability

l Experience working with spreadsheets and databases
l Community engagement skills
l Multi-lingual
l Digital experience design and knowledge of related technology
l Experience working in a consulting organization, museum, historic site, nature center,
or similar organization
l Experience developing successful exhibits or projects
l Experience in and philosophical commitment to team-based project development
l Awareness of an experience applying the Four Truths to interpretive work
l Ability to effectively coordinate with agencies and clients
l Proven skills and comfort level facilitating meetings
The 106 Group offers a competitive salary and benefits package. The minimum base salary for this position is $45,000. Salary is commensurate with experience.
