Position Overview:
The purpose of the Museum Educator position is to implement educational programming to diverse audiences, primarily K-12 students visiting the Bell Museum for field trips, and assist in logistical aspects of programming including materials management and on-site preparation. This is a temporary position, through May 31, 2019, 24 hours a week, with possibility for renewal. Two positions open.
Major Areas of Accountability (with percentages):
School Programs Delivery (90%)
• Teach 5-10 hands-on science lab experiences per week to PreK-12 students. Lab content spans astronomy, life science, nature of science and engineering, arts, physical sciences and engineering practice.
• Lead PreK-12 groups on an interpretive, guided tour of Minnesota Journeys (permanent exhibit gallery)
• Assist in schedule coordination, visit preparation, and other logistics for School Programs with reservations and Education staff.
• Implement hands-on activities during pop-up events on the gallery floor
Curriculum Development (5%)
• Under supervision of School Programs Coordinator, contribute to the development and revision of educational programs
Support of Public Engagement and Science Learning (PESL) Programs (5%)
• Step in to support PESL programs on the museum floor and in classrooms as needed, including the delivery of adult tours and participation in special event programming
• Work with museum staff to compile program evaluation data for reports and for grant proposal submission
Required Qualifications:
- BA/BS with at least 2 years of experience or a combination of related education and experience to equal 6 years.
- Formal education or experience in science and STEM curriculum delivery and program implementation, with demonstrated track record of excellence in teaching
- Knowledge of best practices in informal science education and inquiry-based learning
- Creative, enthusiastic and thrives working in a team setting
- Comfortable working in a dynamic environment where flexibility, dependability, quickness to trouble-shoot, and good humor are paramount
- Must be able to work when Bell Museum is open and University students are on break (November 19-21, December 13- January 22, March 18-22, May 6-30)
