Musuem Experience Coordinator at Minnesota Children's Museum

     This position is a key member of our Museum Experience Team. This position supervises and coaches staff, interns and volunteers that work with the public in our Museum Experiences. This is a hands-on position with significant time in our public spaces modeling exceptional customer service and gallery management practices. The position coordinates all aspects of experience staffing including hiring, scheduling and training. This position acts as Daily Experience Supervisor coordinating all daily operations of Museum Experience.  This position directly supervises 25-30 front line staff and also provides direct and indirect supervision of volunteers engaged in experience activities.

     

    Major Job Accountabilities

     

    • Supervise gallery staff and volunteers. Coordinate all aspects of departmental staff supervision including daily appraisals of staffing levels and rounds throughout the experience. Track training and ongoing performance evaluations. Provide ongoing coaching to staff and ensure museum disciplinary practices are followed.

    • Act as main contact with Human Resources department and staff Scheduler. Relay departmental needs around hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, and payroll.

    • Act as Experience Supervisor as needed. Oversee all daily activities or staff, interns, and volunteers in museum galleries. Respond to visitor questions and concerns. Troubleshoot daily scheduling and procedural challenges including working with outside performers and vendors.

    • Ensure visitor receive excellent customer service in well maintained galleries. Coordinate implementation of quality improvements in service, safety, and experience training. Work with team to coordinate implementation of ongoing exhibit maintenance.  

    • Other duties as assigned.

     

      

     

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

     

    • Minimum of 4 years of formal education, training or experience in administration, coordination, training

    • Minimum of 1 year of supervision experience with a large team

    • Red Cross Certification in First Aid, CPR and AED (Museum provided)

    • Minimum 5 years of customer service experience

    • Work or volunteer experience with children in an educational or recreational setting preferred

    • Ability to effectively supervise a team

    • Ability to work with people at all levels of an organization

    • Ability to work independently and make sound leadership and customer service decisions

    • Ability to communicate effectively

    • Ability to calmly and effectively handle emergency situations

    • Ability to work effectively in an organized manner in a fast-paced changing environment

    • Ability to work with basic word processing functions
