David Harrisville spent the summer of 2009 working for the TRACES Center for History and Culture in St Paul. A history major at Carleton College ('09), Harrisville was well-prepared to research World War II's Berlin Airlift and its connections to the American Midwest for an article on the museum website. TRACES connects to the public through its website and a touring exhibition bus.
Reflecting on his internship, Harrisville writes: "I discovered how important the internet has become to museum work, as a new place to display exhibits, a way to contact other organizations such as foundations, and an avenue for informing the public of upcoming events and changes. TRACES certainly did not fit the stereotype of a 'dusty old museum;' it was a vibrant place where technology intersected with history in surprising new ways."
