Samplers

Join MAM for monthly Samplers - behind-the-scenes visits to area museums and cultural organizations.  Samplers are a great way to meet other museum professionals, discuss common issues and see the really amazing organizations in Minnesota. A formal program is balanced with time to socialize- usually with treats!

To receive regular Sampler notifications, be sure to sign up for the MAM enewsletter.

Tour the one of kind cemetery known as both the Pioneer and Soldier’s Cemetery and Layman’s Cemetery. Historian Sue hunter-Weir will share the unique story of this uncommon instance of a cemetery being listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This inner city cemetery has enjoyed a long history and an ever changing landscape at the intersection of Lake Street and Cedar Avenue in Minneapolis. Learn of the unusual stories held within; everything from Harry Hayward-convicted in Minneapolis’ first sensational murder trial, to the unmarked paupers graves. This is the cemetery tour that you never knew you wanted to take-you don’t want to miss it!

After the tour we will adjourn to nearby Global Market for refreshments and a discussion on what it takes to successfully advocate for a historic cemetery.
